ODE TO AN ABUSED MOM

By Brendon Langevelt

I see you everyday,

bearing the scars.

You still keep your head up,

eyes toward the stars.

I feel the pain you bear inside,

The bitter emotions you try to hide.

You hurt each day and still you pray,

maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

I see your arm is plastered up,

it’s from the way that he beat you up

Even your eye is black and blue,

I hate to see what he has done to you.

I can’t stand looking at you,

cause I’m scared to see your face.

I wish that there was someone else,

that could take his place…

You still keep your head up

I see you everyday

bearing the scars.

eyes toward the stars

I feel the pain you hold inside,

I know the feelings you try to hide.

You hurt each day and still you pray,

maybe tomorrow God will make a way.

Your eyes still looking up,

I saw you today,

there were no scars.

toward the stars.

I’m glad cause you’re no longer hurting.

I’m sad cause now, me you’re deserting.

I saw you everyday,

bearing the scars.

You still kept your head up,

eyes toward the stars…
