FEATURING BADMILK

1.    Who is BadMilk and why the name?

Badmilk is a outgoing, laid back yet very open minded young lady. I love reading and upping my facts cos debates are my thing.
I get this question ALL THE TIIIIIME! Here's the formula thick + rich + creamy + totally bad = Badmilk.

2.    How would you describe your music style?

It’s really versatile. I love exploring depending on my mood & who I'm recording with. I’d also describe it as very relatable too. I make music which is suitable for most types of ambiances and age groups.

3.    Tell us more about your typical day.

Wow! That switches almost every day there's just a different venture. I can either spend the whole day in bed (cos of fatigue) or be out and about all day. It usually starts with me going through my schedule for the day. A jay before I shower lol then I take on whatever I need to attend to. I'm usually in meetings or am shooting if not I like to kick it with my boyfriend and just feed off his energy.

4.    Who are your biggest influences?

My mom! My mom is my everything all I do is in the hopes of her approval & validation. She’s really supportive which just makes me go harder. I also feel as if I have a similar journey to Miley Cyrus cos she a daddy’s girl who had to go through a lot of changes to be who she is now. Style wise Riri & Ella Mai take it for me. Musically Rico Nasty, IAMDDB, Sho Majdozi, Cardi B, Kehlani & Alicia Keys. Businesswise has to be the Kardashian clan & Jay Z.

5.    Why did you choose this genre?

Well I guess I'm sick with the flows like that so I couldn't put them to waste rather even contain them they just ooze out of me. The rnb side is where I can kinda chill out and tap into my feels and reflect on my life and all that I've overcome.

6.    How/where do you see yourself/your work in the next 3/5 years from now?

I see myself as a graduate firstly. Secondly it'd be great for my NPO (Lifestyle Training) to be recognised and be helping people make better choices for themselves & those around them. I hope to also have kickstarted my tour of my first album and lastly I’m tryna see myself on that Forbes 30 under 30.

7.    What are the challenges that you face on a daily?

Really has to be whether or not the route I'm taking is what I truly want in my life. Well I have made up my mind about it, it’s just that having myself on blast like that gets me really shaky. It’s also really easy to doubt yourself if the team or rather the people you work with don't meet the standard you are going for. Its a mission juggling school, music, a job and a social life all at once too.  Networking is a big part of the industry so sometimes my time management takes a plunge cos I end up sacrificing study time to mingle with fellow creatives. #TeamNoRegretsThough
I'm just constantly stuck in a position of do I or don't I but I end up doing it.

8.    Do you think female rappers are collaborating enough in the industry?

Yeah but amongst themselves which sucks. Most collabs are really predictable and it’s become really stale if you ask me. I feel as if the platform should broaden a bit just so we all get a chance at least. The topic of opening up the industry is a tricky one cos I know how hard they worked to get to where they are and we can't take that from them. It’s just that with this music thing it’s unlikely for all your records to sell at the same rate so the industry ultimately has to open up. I mean look at the New Wave and how much it’s been a put on for guys now imagine a female centred New Wave movement? We preach girl power but struggle to live it. Sad.

9.    What sets you apart from the rest?

I have this unexplainable vibe man. It makes people just always want to be around me which I think is my big W. I’m just so easy going and spontaneous you might learn a thing or two if you roll with me. Its undeniable too that I can easily adjust to any kind of scenario or situation. I keep a cool head with all I do and try my best not to ever be bias cos all my life I feel like I've always had to pick sides.

10. What is your favourite holiday spot/food/gadget?

It used to be Durban till I started living there at the moment I'm on the quest for a new spot. My favourite food is anything spicy that is also cheesy & meaty. My favourite gadget would be an iPod cos I can listen to music without having any social media disturbances.

11. What movie best describes you?

Has to be LOL staring Miley Cyrus.

12. What are your favourite childhood memories?

My grandad was a photographer so any moment I spent in front of the camera posing even when I didn't expect it defs has to be one of my favourite memories. My other has to be my 8th birthday which was the day my awesome younger brother was born. That had to be the best birthday gift of my life till date.

13. If you were a fruit, what fruit would you be and why?

I'd be a litchi cos I'm rough on the exterior but sweet and juicy as you enter only to find that I have a hardcore personality. (Pulp)

14. What has been your biggest career highlight?

It’s had to be that I was afforded to work with my producer (Champ Tile) was part of Hypes Freshmen 2017 which sets a standard for me whenever I make a record. I fell into his hands fatefully so because he's been able to groom and challenge me towards being the best that I can. Also opening for J Molley at Durban Denim Day was quiet a big deal for me.

15. Vodka or Whiskey?

None. I'm a beer and cognac girl.

16. What’s your shoe size?

5 n a half and 6. I hope I get sneaks after this interview.

17.If you could dine with anybody who would it be?

Definitely Sho Madjozi I really dig her vibe. I know even if we had steak or ama kota it wouldn't be a biggie cos she's so down to Earth.

18. What is the one thing you cannot live without?

Money.

19.What is your most embarrassing moment?

Realizing that I was getting played by a dude throughout our whole relationship.

20.If this is our last ever conversation, what words of wisdom would you leave me with?

If you really think you can pull something off don't stop until you do. We live in a time if endless opportunities its only right you get what you think you are entitled to.
